This is such a big issue, and one that surprises so many American Christians. I have forwarded this to several well-placed friends.

The threat of radical Islam in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria is very real. There are communities in Plateau state that were wholly Christian. Today, some of those settlements have been completely displaced and replaced by 100 Muslim residents. The silence of the Buhari regime and the indifference of the current government suggest the complicity of government or its security agencies.

Christians' nonviolence orientation has been questioned by some believers who sometimes think that "turning the other cheek". dangerous. I've heard some people moot the idea of a Christian militia to counter the offensive on Christianity in Nigeria.

However, in line with the teachings of Jesus, we must not degenerate into hating our Muslim brethren. There are millions of peaceful and loving Muslims in Nigeria who prefer peaceable coexistence with Christians.

We hope the religious and ethnic tolerance would not only be included in the curriculum but would be pursued as national policy and exempified by the actions and utterances of political and religious leaders.
