Fostering justice in our world is a necessary call for us, isn't it? I, however, disagree with the characterization of Pretti's death in Minneapolis. It looks like the ICE agents recklessly over-reacted to him, but he did resist violently, he was carrying a gun along with several magazines, and seemed otherwise inclined to do more than just video the ICE operation and protest. I am not a defender of the mess we have in Minneapolis, but feel this correction is needed, Bruce.
Robert, I hear your point. But Mr. Pretti had the firearm legally in his possession and he took no action with it. The National Rifle Association and Gun Owners of America have spoken out on this incident, and not in defense of ICE or the Trump administration. If law-abiding behavior and seeking to protect a defenseless woman can get us shot, we are all in trouble.
You are very right, Bruce. I simply objected to your portrayal of Mr. Pretti has an innocent bystander filming the events. He was much more engaged and did resist violently, even though he clearly did not draw the gun (contra Mrs Noem).
Once again thank you for sharing a personal situation and being vulnerable to your readers. The steps you share are common sense and practical. I had not heard of Telemachus and clicked on the link and learned. What a brave and self sacrificing act. I have wanted to speak out and up so many times on my Facebook page and at my church. My church is deeply evangelical, pro life and mostly MAGA from what I can discern. So many times I have wanted to make a comment to challenge ideas or statements being made but have felt it wasn’t prudent to do so. On my Face Book page I want to repost other posts that are not inflammatory but that state the truth about our situation etc. For reasons too long to post here I don’t. One of the main reasons is that my husband could lose his job and I HATE being attacked on my own page for my views. I will ponder the steps you shared and let the Holy Spirit and my convictions hopefully guide me into speaking up in these troubled times.

Timely and helpful reflection.
Helpful, Bruce!
