Issues pertain to what 'religions' are. If they are oppressive ideologies, then even if they are called 'religions', should we really be wanting to make people as 'free' as possible to join them? E.g., the Klu Kluz klan (spelling?), Islam, Marxism, Chinese Communism, Prostitution, the church in Kenya that recently killed hundreds? It seems to me, that there is 'really' only one 'religion', which is that of Christianity. Yes, people should be free to become Christian. But the Bible itself doesn't talk of 'freedom of religion', it talks of the need to believe in Jesus.
