Accountability and transparency is so important! In 2012, we travelled to a mission hospital in the middle of the rainforest in the Congo DRC. A newly graduated PAACS surgeon had returned to his home village and needed support. In determining how funds would be used, it was discovered that the hospital had two sets of books. One set for public eyes and one only a select few could see. Rod and our accompanying two American doctors told them that if they could not see both books, they would get nothing!
It took a couple years for them to get it all under ECFA rules. There is now a Board of Directors for the new hospital they are building. However, I believe all are American. We were asked but declined. We are faithful donors and all accounting is available.
